Holy See holds reverence and disbelief in the same frame. A watchful, gold-winged fish moves across an oxblood field patterned with original ornament, arriving at a blunt conclusion: the sacred and the absurd are often the same thing.

The artwork and repeating background pattern were created for this work. It is printed on smooth fine-art paper as an unframed sheet, ready for the owner’s choice of matting or framing.

The story of the object

Holy See began with a creature that should not have held together: a fish, an exposed human eye, and a pair of wings.

The early versions contained the parts but not the life. The eye looked attached rather than grown. As the anatomy changed, the creature became less decorative and more watchful, vulnerable, and strange.

The surrounding pattern was made specifically for the work. Its repeated eyes and organic geometry were lowered into an oxblood field so they would operate as atmosphere rather than compete with the creature.

The sentence inside the work came from the same collision. Reverence and disbelief are not always opposites. Sometimes beauty, horror, humor, and awe arrive together, and the honest response is simply:

HOLY SHIT.

Materials & Making

Holy See is an original digital artwork by Bad Lion. The creature, repeating background pattern, color treatment, typographic arrangement, and finished composition were created as parts of one work.

The image is printed on smooth hot press fine-art paper. The low-texture surface preserves the serif typography, subdued background pattern, scale detail, and tonal variation within the oxblood field.

The print is supplied as an unframed paper sheet. Mat and frame are not included.
